I was reminded that I hadn't posted on this at all this year. So here is possibly my only post for the year, but stay tuned... Big announcements coming soon!

Google totally wins.
I am quite happy to hand them:
my phone (Google voice) the best thing to happen to cell phones since well cellphones.
my job (Google search) ya, well if I don't know something I will soon.
my phone again (Evo 3d) Love the OS. Love my phone.
my hobbies (I am working on a side project that involves their API more soon.)
my memories (Picassa) I store all my pictures up there.
my web browser (Chrome) Fast, neat; what more is there?
my sense of direction (Google maps) Gave up MapQuest about the time I gave up Hotmail.
my e-mail (Gmail) Ya, work I love exchange, but personal I always give my Gmail account.
my blog (Blogger) well sure, I hardly use it, but it is a Google product.
my reading material on the can (Google reader) Not really commenting on this one.
And now they bring Google+ I just got the invite last night, already I love it. I haven't even tried out the real cool stuff yet like "hangouts" or "huddles" but the "circles" feature is just perfect. Share what you want with who you want. Unlike Facebook's post to everyone you know, I can make a circle that is just for people who have an unhealthy love of all things Disney (which I do and Mom and Angie are the only two in it as of this post) and just drop things I come across about Disney into it. It doesn't go to my co-workers, it doesn't go to my third cousin. I don't have to filter out what I do actually want to share with people but don't want to e-mail them. It is just done right. And likewise (and I know it's early) I don't have to hear about stuff that doesn't concern me. I am not sure, but I hope that if you are put into a circle you can mute that circle. I wouldn't want to be put into a wrong circle, I don't want to hear about your aunt Fannie's stamp collection. I have high hopes, and so far a ton of praise for this. Good show Google. Keep it up, and keep the stamp collecting posts away.

Today at a lunch meeting someone didn't show. So, I was given what was an extra Cobb Salad. (Thanks Carrie!)
I was going through it looking at what they had included. I saw a couple of pieces of avocado. I thought "They could have put more avocado in there, I am an avocado fan." NO WAIT:

Happy birthday!
Ernest Hemingway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Well today I turn 34. 33 was a good year. I intend to make this one even better! I share this day with Ernest Hemingway and Robin Williams. Today I am going to draft a list of goals for the year. I hadn't really done this for quite some time, but I think it is a great idea. Here's to a happy birthday to me and Papa and Mork!

Greg Matz has been named a Systems Engineer, Intermediate and will be moving into the messaging team in Core Systems. Greg will be working closely with Paul Russell and Paul Wehner to support our enterprise messaging infrastructure.
That's great news! It has been brewing for some time, but today's announcement makes it official. Not sure what the $ side of it will be but that's all good :)

Spore Creature Creator!
My PsudoHomer(one hour of play with the tool)
Okay, if the rest of the game is half as fun (and I am sure it will be a lot more fun) as this freebie, I know that my fall will be sitting in front of my computer making PsudoHomer a space-faring race!

Books are so decorative.
Antique Books, Home & Office Interior Decorating Ideas, Leather Bound Books - Book Decor
Well I wouldn't believe it. Of course in this world, not much surprises me. It's actually not that bad since they are selling the leather bound books. Since they are no longer printed like that, it could actually be something that would make a library complete. Gloria Upson would be so proud. I do have a better idea. (of course that is a little more pricey)

What did I say???!! :)
Daylight Saving Wastes Energy, Study Says - WSJ.com
For decades, conventional wisdom has held that daylight-saving time, which begins March 9, reduces energy use. But a unique situation in Indiana provides evidence challenging that view: Springing forward may actually waste energy.
When the great DST debate was going on here in Indiana I always said that it wasn't about energy savings. There may be plenty of reasons to do it from a sociological point of view. The hours that I personally wasted on calendar servers and setting other servers to understand that they were leaving one time zone (not just following DST mind you) are significant. My point: you aren't saving daylight, just having it at a different (arbitrary) time. I also said that there were programs out there that would have to be re-coded to show that an Indiana Zip Code no longer put you in that "Indiana EST" time zone but now into wherever it fell on the new chart. Not quite a Y2K size issue, but still more than a non-event.
Anyway to go back now would also be a pain in my rear, so that's not my point :)
I probably want to come back to this post to make my point a little more clear so if you read it before that, oopsie. I was mostly done with this dead horse of an issue after all my machines flipped.

Absence by Exchange 2007
I have been not doing much personal e-mailing, blogging, twittering, or even sleeping. I try not to dive into my day-to-day at work on here (not that there is a precedent set one way or the other really). Let me tell all both of you who read this, I am working a lot. To write this little post I am taking a little break from working more or less non-stop for a couple weeks now. When it's done we will have a nice e-mail farm. I can't wait for it. At one point I was going to document the entire process on a separate blog. Something that others about to undertake this migration or something like it would be able to read. It could help them listing our pitfalls, lessons learned, and other fun facts of an Exchange 2007 install in Academia. I have been keeping notes, but not writing anything. If this doesn't kill me I may go back and do it. (I really do enjoy throwing myself into a project, and this one will affect the most people directly out of any I have done to date.) Okay, back into the pool!
